Product certification is a process that confirms your product or service meets the necessary and relevant standards for your chosen market. In some markets certification is mandatory and in others it is voluntary. Having the correct certification for your market can be critical to ensuring your success.
There are literally thousands of certification marks available for different applications. BSI can help your organization follow the correct routes to certification and provide advice on how these differ from mark to mark and within the certification structure and the intended market.
Mandatory
Some certification schemes are mandatory depending on the intended market for the product or service and if not applied correctly are subject to enforcement by law.
For example, CE marking is mandatory if your product falls within the scope of one or more of the New Approach Directives and your intended market is somewhere in the European Economic Area (EEA).
Voluntary
Some certification schemes such as Kitemark® are voluntary and are undertaken by manufacturers to demonstrate that a product or service meets or exceeds the relevant standard. It is a highly-recognized and trusted mark and creates a distinct market advantage – especially in UK markets.
What we can do for you
BSI can identify technical requirements, product testing and certification schemes for most countries in the world. If we aren't already part of a certification scheme, we'll investigate joining it to help you.
We have multilateral agreements with many countries (Japan, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, EU member states, China and Russia) to accept our test reports for a wide range of products.
The benefits of product certification are numerous and can significantly affect the success of your product in certain markets.
